Call for Entries 2011 20”x20”x20”: A National Compact Competition

The LSU Student Union Art Advisory Committee at Louisiana State University is now accepting entries for their annual 20”x20”x20”: A National Compact Competition and Exhibit.  The deadline to submit CD or slide entries is Wednesday, September 7. This all-media competition is open to all artists residing in the United States.

This year’s juror, Julie Sasse, will award $6000 in cash prizes, with a $1,800 prize for the first place winner, $1,200 for second place, $900 for third place, and five honorable mentions at $400 eachThe juror for the competition is Julie Sasse. Julie is the Chief curator at the Tucson Museum of Contemporary Art, Tucson, Arizona and has curated shows such as Paint on Metal: Modern and Contemporary Explorations and Discoveries and Andy Warhol’s Portfolio: Life and Legends which included 84 serigraphs of Andy Warhol. She received a Clark Art Institute fellowship in 2008 to write the exhibition catalog for Trouble in Paradise: Examining Discord Between Nature and Society, an exhibition presented at the Tucson Museum of Art in 2009. Julie also received a Smithsonian Latino Museum Studies Fellowship in Washington DC. In addition to her curatorial work Sasse is a professional artist. She works both with painting and sculpture.

The selected exhibit will be on view from October 23 to November 30, 2011 in the LSU Student Union Art Gallery at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge.

A non-refundable $35 entry fee is required. Artists may submit up to three entries. Two-dimensional works on paper, excluding the mat and frame, cannot exceed 20 inches for any one dimension. Sculptures may have one side exceeding 20 inches in length or width but overall weight cannot exceed 70 pounds.
