Call for Images

MTA ARTS FOR TRANSIT seeks artists’ images of previous work. Artists’ packages will be reviewed and up to four finalists per station will be selected to create original two-dimensional proposals for commission opportunities at each of the five subway stations in Queens.

Located in the Ozone Park and Woodhaven neighborhoods, the five stations are station renewal projects. A percent of the construction budget for the stations is allocated for the inclusion of permanent artworks.

The commissioned artists will create artwork that will be reproduced into the medium of steel and be placed within the frames of the platform windscreens for the five stations shown on the above map. Approved fabricators will translate the selected artworks; therefore artists’ prior experience with this material is not necessary.

The budget for the artworks for each station is estimated at approximately $120,000. The budget includes an artist fee of up to 20% of the final project costs. As part of this fee, the selected artists will be required to submit a budget, produce completed designs, obtain stamped engineering drawings, oversee the fabrication and installation of the artwork.

Four finalists will be selected based on the quality and appropriateness of the images reviewed. Finalists will be given site specifications and detailed overviews of the station projects to create a proposal of original artwork. An honorarium of $750 will be paid for each proposal. Following the selection panel’s review of proposals and selection of artists, MTA Arts for Transit will match the selected artist with the station(s). MTA Arts for Transit may select other station renewal projects on the Liberty line as part of this selection process.
