Light Sensitive: A National Juried Exhibition of Analog Photography

Art Intersection invites artists to submit work for consideration in a national juried exhibition, Light Sensitive. Submissions will be juried by Becky Senf, Norton Family Curator at the Center for Creative Photography in Tucson, Arizona.

Submission Guidelines

  • Work accepted for review must utilize media that is based in analog photographic processes. The final print must be produced in a manner other than digital printing although digitally produced negatives and/or images captured digitally can be used in the process of producing the final print(s). Three–dimensional work and artists’ books will be considered if they have an analog photographic basis.
  • All two-­‐dimensional work must be framed and ready to hang. Three-­‐dimensional work must be free standing or have a pedestal that comes with it for display.
  • The works submitted must be the sole creation of the exhibiting artist(s). Submission of collaborative work is encouraged.
  • Artists must be at least 18 years old.

What to Submit

  • Up to 5 images in JPEG format, 300 dpi, 5-­‐ inches on the short side. Work that is not submitted in JPEG form will not be reviewed. File names on jpegs via email and/or on a CD should match the titles as they appear on the title list and include last name of the artist.
  • A $40 (non-­member) or $30 (member) registration fee.
  • Submitting artists must include a short artist statement about the piece(s) submitted, and an abbreviated process description of the manner in which the prints were produced.
  • A title list in a separate document that includes contact information along with the title, date, media, and dimensions of framed work submitted.

Important Dates

  • 12 January 2012: Submissions due at Art Intersection.
  • 27 January 2012: Notification of artists selected for exhibition will be listed on our website.
  • 23 February 2012: Selected work due, ready to hang, at Art Intersection.
  • 3 March – 28 April 2012: Exhibition dates.
  • 3 March 2012: Opening reception from 6-­9pm.
  • 10 May 2012: Work shipped back to artist, with shipping paid by Art Intersection.

About the Juror

Dr. Rebecca Senf is the Norton Family Curator of Photography, a joint appointment at the Center for Creative Photography and the Phoenix Art Museum. She curates three exhibitions a year for the Doris and John Norton Gallery for the Center for Creative Photography in Phoenix. Senf grew up in Tucson and went to undergraduate school at the University of Arizona, studying the history of photography. She spent ten years in Boston, Massachusetts where she earned a Ph.D. in Art History at Boston University. In Boston she worked on the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston’s major exhibition Ansel Adams from The Lane Collection, for which she also co-­‐authored the exhibition catalogue. Upcoming projects include an exhibition on the modernist photographer Aaron Siskind and a traveling exhibition and catalogue entitled Louise Dahl-­Wolfe: Photographer at Work (2012).

About Art Intersection

The space at Art Intersection encompasses a Photographic Arts Lab and Gallery for learning, creating, and exhibiting photographic art while embracing the intersection of related art forms.

The Photographic Arts Lab offers a fully outfitted facility for the beginning, amateur, and professional photographer to practice the art of photography. This is the Learn and Create space for photography at Art Intersection.

Wood floors, brick walls, and metal ceilings blend to create an inviting environment welcoming visitors to enjoy curated exhibitions in the Gallery at Art Intersection. This is the Exhibit space at Art Intersection serving to support the gathering of artists and art enthusiasts for exhibitions, lectures, seminars, and meetings.
