Call for Proposals: Viewpoint Photographic Art Center Solo & Group Exhibitions – due 5/18/12

Viewpoint Photographic Art Center is now accepting proposals for solo and group exhibitions for the period February 2013 through January 2014. Details are as follows.

Exhibition Dates:
Exhibits run for approximately 4 weeks and change during the 2nd week of each month. There are 9 slots open for Main Gallery and 10 slots open for Step-Up Gallery from February 2013 through January 2014.

Deadline for proposal submission:
Proposals must be submitted online by midnight (PDT) at the end of Friday, May 18, 2012, to be considered by Viewpoint Photographic Art Center Exhibit Committee.

Gallery:

Main Gallery
The Main Gallery has up to 80 linear feet of exhibit space on fixed walls and up to 70 linear feet on movable partitions and can display from 40 to 60 matted 16×20-inch prints.
Fee: There is no fee for exhibiting in the Main Gallery.
Eligibility: Proposals for the Main Gallery are open to all interested photographers including, but not limited to Viewpoint members.

Step-Up Gallery
The Step-Up Gallery exhibits Viewpoint member photography. The gallery is in a separate space adjacent to the Main Gallery and contains 50 linear feet of wall space available for solo and group exhibits. A $200.00 rental fee is charged for a one-month exhibit. This fee applies to both solo and group exhibits.
Eligibility: Proposals for the Step-Up Gallery are open to current Viewpoint Photographic Art Center members only.

Submission:

  • Submissions will be made using Entrythingy online submissions.
  • Submissions must be in digital format. The Exhibit Committee will not accept slides or prints during the initial review. Finalists for consideration may be asked to submit sample exhibition prints at a later date.
  • Please submit a representative selection of at least 15 but no more than 25 images from a finished, cohesive body of work.
  • Multiple submissions (up to 3) will be considered. Please differentiate by title (see below). Upload all files and projects before submitting.

Image Specifications:
Submit JPG images, RGB color mode, 300 ppi resolution, minimum size 1200 pixels wide. The maximum uploadable file size is 8 megabytes. High-resolution images are requested for use in printed publicity. Any images displayed online will be resized to web standard low resolution.

File Names:

  • File names MAY contain lower-case letters, numerals, underscores, and hyphens. File names should contain NO capitals, spaces, or any of these special characters: ! # $ % & ‘ @ ^ ` ~ + , . : ; = ( ). Underscores are allowed.
  • File names should contain the following information: Last Name, title of image, image number. Example: smith_waterfall_01.jpg

Other information:

Submit/upload as separate text files:

  • Inventory of images (including file name, image title, gallery preference, your name, and email address);
  • Biography or resume (including name, address, phone number, and email address);
  • Artist’s statement;
  • Brief description of the images (including final print format i.e., gelatin silver, digital, etc., and approximate print size, with mat or frame size).

Fees:

There is no fee for submitting initial on-time proposals. There is no fee for additional two (2) proposals after the initial submission.

Submissions after midnight May 18, 2012 will be required to pay late submission fee of $10.00 for the submission to be considered. The $10.00 fee for late submissions after May 18, 2012 can be paid by using the PayPal button, or calling the gallery during normal hours, and paying with a credit card.

Photographic presentation:

The Exhibit Installation Committee at Viewpoint will be responsible for installing the exhibits. Exhibiting photographers are welcome to suggest an exhibit design and assist with installation. Installation dates are the Monday and Tuesday prior to the second Saturday of the exhibit month

Photographs must arrive at Viewpoint Photographic Art Center, 2015 J Street, Suite 101, Sacramento, California 95811, at least ten (10) days before the installation date noted above.

Photographs must arrive “ready to hang” and be presented professionally. Framed images should have black or white gallery frames. Color mats should be avoided. If matted-only images are provided, the mats must be standard sizes (11 x 14, 16 x 20, 18 x 24, 20 x 24, or 22 x 28 inches) either portrait or landscape. If mats are not one of these sizes, you will be required to supply plexiglass the same size as the mat at your expense.

Exhibition:
Viewpoint will host Friday Members, Friends, and Guests, and Second Saturday receptions featuring both the Main Gallery exhibit and the Step-Up Gallery exhibit. Photographers exhibiting are encouraged to attend these receptions and personally present their work.

Viewpoint will provide refreshments for the Friday evening reception and staffing for both receptions.

Exhibitors may host private receptions on other dates during the month, by prior arrangement with Viewpoint Gallery. An experienced Viewpoint Gallery docent must be present at all receptions. The exhibitor will be responsible for providing refreshments for these special private receptions.

Sales:
Gallery exhibition print sales (60% share for the artist / 40% commission for the gallery).
