CALL FOR PROPOSALS: MISCHIEF NIGHT AT THE HYDE PARK ART CENTER – due 9-6-12

Have an idea for an experimental arts performance or interactive workshop?

Artists are masters of constructing moments of subversion, spectacle, and illusion. On Saturday, October 27, from 1-10 pm, we’re asking you to create those moments at the Art Center for Mischief Night, a free community festival of creative workshops, artist performances, exhibitions, local business expositions, music, and more.

Mischief Night is a unique community event that connects a diverse group of artists, performers, organizations, businesses, and Chicagoans from all over the city, encouraging everyone to interact within a celebratory environment. Last year, Mischief Night brought over 1,000 people to the Art Center, and we’re looking to reach even more art-hungry, art-curious kids, teens, and adults this year with the addition of fun elements like food trucks, guerrilla art-making, and ART BAR, a mash-up of our monthly series of Cocktails & Clay, Prints & Pints, and Shots in the Darkroom.

We’re asking artists and organizations to submit proposals for workshops, performances, games, events – whatever will showcase your most experimental work while highlighting the theme of mischief and the Art Center’s vibrant community. We’re looking for creative proposals that are as interactive as possible and/or a spectacle in nature. We can provide space and some of the materials, depending on what you need.

If you’re interested, please send the following information to brosini@hydeparkart.org:

  • Artist name and contact information
  • Proposed time of day
  • Name of event
  • Description of event
  • Materials needed
  • Good for kids? Adult eyes only? All ages event?

The deadline for proposals is September 6. If your event seems like a good fit, we’ll contact you with an invitation to be part of Mischief Night by September 20.
